Taste of the South is not only one of the best events in Washington, but it also celebrates culture and heritage of the great southern states. Aligning with true southern hospitality, the event includes a vast array of rich foods native to each featured state, multiple open bars, and lots of swag including mini Tobasco bottles, Mardi Gras masks, and so much more. The event was at the Washington Hilton, which was a first, and the set up was perfect. Tables for each state were placed along the edges of the room, and two large bars and a dance floor were in the center.

The event was a particular favorite to those who work for and support southern congressional delegates as nearly 100% of them supported the event. The states featured at the event included: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. The band was high energy and extremely entertaining. They had guests rushing to the dance floor to dance the night away to southern classics like “Carolina Girls”.

This fun and unique event does not only celebrate southern heritage, but it also raises money for some great causes.  This years featured charity is West End School in Louisville, Kentucky. West End School provides a free private college-prep education for at risk young men in the community. The event raised around $40,000 for the charity. Also, a portion of the proceeds are donated to a number of southern based charities, which can be found here. Taste of the South is an unforgettable event. To anyone who missed it this year, I highly recommend attending next year. For those who made it this year, I highly recommend that ya’ll come back now! Ya hear?
